This joint opening series, also called energy opening or energy releasing series, uses gentle range of motion exercises. This can be done in a chair or on the floor. I recommend this series for beginners and people with limited mobility (i.e. difficulties getting up and down from floor, post surgery, seniors, chronic pain). I use progressive relaxation at the end of the series to help reduce any stress in the body or mind. I also highly recommend this practice for anyone familiar with yoga asana including teachers or long time practitioners. You can truly feel the differences between right and left side of the body, discover unconscious imbalances, and notice subtle but profound releases. If you are bored, that comes from the mind, not your body. Your body reveals everything! Joint spaces are easy places for blood to stagnate or move slower. Gentle and mindful range of motion stimulates synovial fluid, the good fluid that helps keep the joints healthy. This series helps to improve circulation while helping to lubricate the joints. Always listen to YOUR body. As always, never do any exercise or stretch that aggravates or creates sharp, nervy, or uncomfortable pain. If you find an area of the body that is more challenging than another, or one side is more challenging than the other, just do what you can. Rest as needed and pick-up on the next exercise. I've seen amazing results using this simple, yet highly effective, series with people who had chronic pain or limitations. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me. Aloha & Namaste
